PRACTICE AREA
We represent public school districts in all facets of labor and employment law, providing counsel that blends legal precision with a deep understanding of the unique environment of K–12 education. Our attorneys advise on teacher contracts, tenure matters, and the full range of personnel issues that arise in the course of school operations. We guide districts through the collective bargaining process, from strategy development to contract negotiation and drafting, and represent boards of education in grievance arbitrations, unfair labor practice proceedings, and other labor disputes.
Our practice includes advising on union relations, ensuring administrators are well-informed about contract interpretation, management rights, and obligations under the Ohio Public Employees’ Collective Bargaining Act. We also assist districts in preventing and addressing workplace misconduct, including claims of harassment, retaliation, and discrimination based on protected characteristics under federal and state law.
In addition, we provide counsel on compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and related leave issues, helping districts develop policies that meet statutory requirements while supporting operational continuity. Through proactive training, clear policy development, and effective dispute resolution, we help school leaders maintain a professional, legally compliant, and productive workplace.
